Day One: The Failure
We lost our primary camera on the first day of shooting. A mounting failure during a high-speed tracking shot sent the rig to the ground. The camera survived — barely — but the footage was unusable. Six hours of shooting, gone.
The decision to reshoot rather than salvage was made in the car on the way back. Some footage can be rescued in post. This couldn't. The angles were wrong, the lighting had changed, and the energy of the day was off. Starting fresh was the only option.
Day Two: The Reshoot
The reshoot was faster and better. Knowing exactly what we needed — and what hadn't worked — meant we could move through the shot list efficiently. We wrapped in four hours with footage that was noticeably stronger than what we'd lost.
The Edit Decision
The last-minute edit change was the title sequence. The original cut opened with a slow build. The final version opens at full speed — no setup, no context, just immediate action. That decision changed the entire feel of the episode. Sometimes the best creative choices come from running out of time.
