This isn't a computer game. Our fighter jet reel put viewers inside the cockpit of a real life-or-death moment — and 1.5K reactions proved it landed. We break down the POV techniques, sound design, and editing rhythm that create genuine adrenaline through a screen.
The POV Problem
Point-of-view shots are deceptively difficult. The camera has to be in exactly the right position to make the viewer feel like they're the one in the cockpit — not watching someone else. Too wide and you lose the claustrophobia. Too tight and you lose spatial context.
For the missile sequence, we used a 14mm lens mounted at eye level inside a cockpit mockup. The narrow field of view created by the cockpit frame — combined with the wide lens — gave us the compression we needed to make the incoming missile feel genuinely threatening.
Sound as a Storytelling Tool
The sound design in this reel does more work than the visuals. The missile's approach was built from three separate audio layers: a low-frequency rumble that starts 10 seconds before impact, a high-pitched whine that builds through the final 5 seconds, and a sharp transient at the moment of closest approach. Together they create a physical sensation — something you feel as much as hear.
The Edit Rhythm
The cut rate accelerates as the missile approaches — from 2-second cuts at the start to half-second cuts in the final moments. This mirrors the physiological experience of adrenaline: time seems to slow down and speed up simultaneously. The edit makes the viewer's body respond before their brain catches up.
